I’ve been using these washable baby wipes from Nature’s Child for about three months now and I have to say, I really love them! My three year old daughter likes them too, and sometimes I can’t find any around because she’s used them all on her dolls! They’re called ‘baby wipes’, as in, for use on baby’s bottom, instead of disposable baby wipes, but in reality, you could use them for just about anything. When I got them, my little one was no longer a ‘young baby’ (sigh), but if she had been, I would have LOVED using these on her instead of the cotton wool that I had been using. For one, they are washable, which means, you’re not throwing away anything after you use them. And, the other thing that I absolutely love about these things is that they’re so super soft and absorbent. Perfect for a newborn and young baby’s delicate skin.
The wash clothes come four in a pack. They are rectangular in shape and are really a perfect size for wiping babies with, not too big nor too small. They are made from 100% certified organic cotton and are two-ply. One side is brushed flannelette and the other is like a micro terry cloth fibre, with a ribbed boarder around the outside. Here’s a close up photo of what they look like.
Why Organic and Why Reusable
These washable baby wipes are made in India from 100% certified organic cotton. Conventionally grown cotton (non-organic) uses more insecticides than any other crop in the world! While, using non-organic cotton is not so bad for your baby (although it is reported that organic cotton is softer and less harsh on the skin, and I agree), the manufacturing of non-organic cotton wrecks havoc on the environment, the society and the ecosystems where it is grown. Non-organic cotton is sprayed with pesticides and fertilizers that contaminate soil and waterways. Growing organic cotton is better for the cotton farm workers, better for the environment and ultimately, better for the planet (makes your conscious feel good too).
Nature’s Child estimates that one average baby uses $900 of disposable baby wipes a year! So, by using washable baby wipes, not only are you keeping disposable wipes out of the landfill, but you’re also helping your bank account. Even the ‘natural’ disposable baby wipes end up in the bin… Who wants to waste their money of stuff to wipe their baby’s bottoms with?! Also, disposable wipes contain chemicals and preservatives that can be harsh on a baby’s skin. With Nature’s Child’s wash clothes, all you have to do is add a bit of water and go! Organic washable baby wipes, for the win!
Nature’s Child Baby Wipes are $24.95 for a pack of four. It seems like a lot of money up front to invest in a handful of baby wipes… but now that I’ve tried them, I wish I had more! To think of how much money you save in the long run, it’s fully worth it. My only advice is to buy a few packs! To purchase the wash clothes form Nature’s Child, click here.
