If You Brush Your Teeth, You Ought to Read This

Even the ocean sometimes isn’t enough to shut up my mind.

Tonight, while I floated around in the sea, trying to catch my last wave in, my mind was a bubbling mess of thoughts — worries, ‘what ifs’, doubts and insecurities. I walked home in a huff and took a shower. Then dried myself off and reveled in the fact that the house was quiet. My husband had taken the kids grocery shopping!

So, without wasting a second, I plopped down on the floor and shut my eyes for a 20 minute meditation. When I opened my eyes, I felt so fresh, alert and calm. All the stupid thoughts that had been flying around in my head 20 minutes ago, were gone. My smile was back and my breath felt light.

Do you brush your teeth everyday?

Do you take a shower?

It’s not always fun, but we do it, right?

That being said, brushing your teeth is so important. No one wants to have to deal with cavities or tooth decay and therefore it is fundamental that you have an oral hygiene routine in place to look after your smile. Additionally, part of this should also involve regular checkups with a Dentist in Hartford or with a dentist wherever you might live every six months.

It is also no secret that our teeth can sometimes be the root of our insecurities. For example, I have a friend who always used to be so upset about her Gummy smile. However, thanks to a series of Botox treatments, and some cosmetic dental work, she now has the smile she has always wanted.

Ultimately, we spend so much time grooming our outside. We ask, how long do crest white strips take to work, how can I clean my skin from blemishes, and other questions, but we rarely take the time to clean out the old attic. You, know, the mind that has a brand new thought every microsecond? You know the one I’m talking about. The mind, that clings on to the negative and that worries way more than it should. That’s the one!

Everyone should take a little time to meditate. A little time every day to attend to our ‘self‘.

Why every day? Because just like the body, the mind gets a little crusty every day.

We go on scrubbing and painting and shaving our outside, but when do we ever take care of the most important thing — Our state of mind?

We’ve all seen people who look polished and perfect on the outside. But, if those same people act miserable and stressed, no amount of outward scrubbing can hide how they’re feeling.

When we feel calm and centered and peaceful inside, then that feeling radiates from every cell of our being. You can just feel it when you’re around someone who is peaceful. It feels nice, doesn’t it?

I’ve been meditating every day of my life for the past 13 years, since I did my first Art of Living program in 2002. Stress still comes into my life, I’m not a saint, but I feel like I have a tool that allows me to deal with the ups and downs of life.
